I hope that all my readers have a nice holiday weekend! Does anyone have any special Easter/Passover/Spring break plans? I’m going to bake a few pies for an Easter party on Sunday. I still have a bunch of pumpkin puree in the freezer from October, so pumpkin pie it is!

Shopping Trip – April 5th: How I Got A New Vacuum For $4.99

Monday, April 6th, 2009

We drove down to Portland this weekend, and were able to snag some great deals on our way home!

First, we stopped at a Fred Meyer in Portland to grab some Starbucks coffees. While our drinks were being made, I noticed a newspaper that someone had left behind on a table, which happened to be full of inserts. Free coupons! Hooray!

Then we stopped in Beaverton so that I could visit a K-Mart store. You see, I entered the Score Great Prizes sweepstakes at the beginning of the year, and ended up winning a $50 K-Mart gift card. I was excited to use my prize, and I knew exactly what I wanted to get – a new vacuum. Mine has been on the fritz for months, and I’ve been shopping around for a new one. I kept thinking, “There’s got to be a better deal than what I’m finding,” so I patiently used a broom while I looked for a bargain. And I’m so glad that I did!

Total spent: $4.99 in cash, put $50 on my K-Mart gift card
Total before coupons: $59.99

I picked out this awesome Eureka vacuum, which was priced at $59.99. I had a coupon good for $5 off a $50 purchase that I received by signing up for their email list, which brought the total down to $54.99. I then used my $50 gift card prize, which left me with a grand total of only $4.99!

Right next to K-Mart was a Grocery Outlet “Bargain Market” store. I’ve always loved these outlets, so I thought I’d pop in and have a look after I got my vacuum. I needed to pick up a few pantry staples anyway, and even though I didn’t use coupons, the shelf prices were pretty low.

Total spent: $11.26

Got:

1 lb. of bacon – price: $1.69
8 oz brick of cheese – price: $1.99
1.5 lbs of coffee – price: $5.99
Half a gallon of milk – price: $1.59

SCG Readers: Know Of Any K-Mart Deals?

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

So we’re heading into Portland this weekend, and I plan to stop at K-Mart because I have a $50 gift card to use. Do you guys have any deal tips for me? Are there any unmissable sales I should know about? I just signed up for K-Mart’s email newsletter so that I can get a coupon for $5 off a $50 purchase. If you know of any other offers or coupons, please share them in the comments!

Happy Friday, everyone! Hope you get some good deals this weekend!

Home Made Simple – Free Cascade Coupon

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Click here to sign up for the Home Made Simple coupon booklet, which contains $30 worth of coupons. They frequently put out new versions of this free booklet, so even if you’ve signed up for one of these in the past, you may still register for the latest copy. It seems like I get one of these every few months, and each time it’s come with a coupon for a free bottle of Cascade Rinse Agent – so it’s definitely worth signing up for. I have 4 bottles of Cascade in my stockpile thanks to this booklet!

Last Shopping Trip Of The Month – March 31st

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

I made a quick stop at Safeway while I was out running errands yesterday:

Total spent: Zero!
Total before coupons: $5.79
View receipt

Got:

1 package of Trix yogurt – on sale for $3.00, used one free product coupon. I was invited to write a review of this yogurt for my other blog, and I received this coupon with my review materials. (Psst…I’ll be giving these away, too, so if you want to win yogurt, check Contest Corner tomorrow.)
1 bottle of Suave hairspray – on sale for $2.79, used one free product coupon that I received by signing up for a special promotion on Suave’s website in January. The coupon was about to expire, so I wanted to make sure that I used it!

When the cashier rang me up, both of these coupons took off their maximum value instead of the actual price, so the register ended up being negative $1.23; the cashier then added $1.23 to the total in order to balance it out to zero. So in case you’re trying to figure my receipt out, that’s what the $1.23 “Grocery” item is!
