24 Hour SOPA Blackout

SOPA Protest

Super Coupon Girl is back online after our 24 hour SOPA blackout – all posts and functionality have been restored. We appreciate your support!

In case you missed it yesterday, you can click here to read my article about SOPA/PROTECT IP and the blackout. It breaks down key points of concern in this legislation with extensive citations and sources for further reading. As someone with a background in music and journalism, ensuring that artists are duly compensated for their works is an important issue to me. Ironically, the vague wording of these bills could actually result in the removal of legal, non-infringing websites that musicians, painters, and writers rely on to promote their works – not only harming their careers, but destroying the livelihoods of countless others and permanently altering what Americans are allowed to see on the Internet.

It is because of the threats which these bills pose to legitimate sites such as Super Coupon Girl that we decided to participate in this widespread blackout. And it is working – as of this writing, many senators have withdrawn their support for these bills. But while this is a step in the right direction, SOPA and PROTECT IP have not been scrapped. This is why it’s important to continue voicing opposition and let Congress know that these bills are not the solution to the complex issue of copyright enforcement.

If you haven’t already, click here to read my article about SOPA, then click here to write to your representative and tell them how you feel about SOPA and PROTECT IP. Or, if you’re really in a rush, click here to visit AmericanCensorship.org and use the form they provide to write to Congress – it literally takes 30 seconds to fill in your name and hit “Send”.

Sabra Hummus Taste-Testing Party!

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend! Today I am hosting a taste-testing party for Sabra hummus. I’ve invited my friends and family to come over this afternoon and try out new flavors of hummus so that they can share their opinion on it for an upcoming article on Contest Corner. It should be fun! I was sent an envelope of free hummus coupons and a gift card to buy supplies with, so I’ll be posting the results of my shopping trip tomorrow.

Back From San Diego

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Hi everyone! I have returned from a very fun weekend with family in San Diego. A great time was had by all! Now I’m back in Oregon and have begun reading through all the emails and comments that I received while I was gone – so if you wrote to me while I was out of town, you’ll be hearing from me soon.

Thanks once again to my guest posters for their fun articles that ran while I was on vacation!

I’m off to San Diego today for a four-day trip with family! I will be back on Monday night, so I will answer your emails and comments after I return. In the meantime, you’re welcome to follow me on Twitter, where I’ll be tweeting updates and pictures from my trip.

But just because I’m going on vacation doesn’t mean my blog is! I have all kinds of fabulous posts lined up to run while I’m away, including some fun articles from a few guest writers.

My First "V-Log"

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

I recently recorded my first video blog over at Contest Corner, reviewing the yogurt that I’ve mentioned eating during this grocery challenge. So if you’re curious, you can click here to check it out!

The yogurt was sent to me by MyBlogSpark, who also forwarded me the links to some printable coupons which they said I could share with everyone. Here they are:

$1.25 off one Yoplait Delights multipack

$1.00 off Yoplait Fiber One multipack

I’ll let you guys know if I spot any hot deals with these coupons!

Programming Note

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

I’m not going to be around much this week, because I am preparing to hold a giant estate sale this weekend. After my mom passed away in 2003, I inherited everything – and every nook and cranny of storage space in my home is jam packed with stuff. So now we are going through it all and deciding what to keep, what other family members would like to have, and selling everything else. The photo above is what my living room looks like as I sort and price things, and as you can see, I have my hands full! I’ll be checking in periodically, but I won’t have as much time to answer emails or write posts until the sale is done. But I’ll be back soon, and I’ll have pictures to share from the sale, since I also plan on selling a few stockpile items!

Back In Oregon

The view out of our plane’s window yesterday, as we flew over Greenland

Hello everyone!! Jai and I got back from our trip yesterday afternoon. We had a wonderful time! I’m currently recovering from major jet lag combined with an icky flu that I caught right before we left, so I just wanted to pop in quickly and say “Hi”. I’m going to rest up this weekend, and then I’ll share pictures of the bargain shopping that I did in England!

I’d like to thank all my fabulous guest writers again for sharing their frugal thoughts with us while I was away. I have one last guest post coming up tomorrow, so you can enjoy that while I re-adjust to the time zone! Also, the baby oil giveaway ends on Monday, so be sure to get your entries in – big thanks to guest poster Sun for hosting it.

I’ll have lots to catch up with in the coupon world next week. What deals have you guys snagged this month?

Leavin’ On A Jet Plane

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Jai and I are leaving for England tomorrow! We’ll be catching a flight out of Portland, which happens to have an 8-hour layover in Amsterdam, so we’ll have time to leave the airport and have a look around the city. Then we’ll hop back on a plane and head to Manchester! From there we’ll travel to my dad’s house in Birkenhead, and then we’ll head down south to a resort in Bognor Regis – I’m going there on assignment for Fuel My Blog, and you can click here if you want to read more about that. It’s a packed itinerary, and it’s going to be a blast!

But my blog won’t be collecting dust while I’m away – I’ve lined up a great batch of guest posts to run while I’m gone! There’s a wide variety of topics that will be covered, and I think you’ll enjoy the creatively frugal insights my guest posters have to share. There’s even going to be a special giveaway while I’m gone!

I will be also posting updates and pictures on my Twitter page while I’m away, so you can always check that out if you’re curious to see what we’re up to!

Bits & Pieces

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

  • As you can tell, I haven’t done much shopping this month. With so much going on and our trip coming up in a week and a half, I’ve been like the lady in that photo – making my list and checking it twice. Trying to cram in grocery trips as well just hasn’t been appealing, so I’ve just been making use of what I have in my pantry and freezer. Plus, I’ll be gone for two weeks, and I want to use up any perishable ingredients so that they won’t go to waste.
  • I’ve gotten some great articles lined up to run while I’m away, and I still have space for more submissions – so if you want to share your frugal thoughts and be a guest poster here on SCG, email me!
  • I haven’t had a chance to post a new Coupon Funded Menu Corner in a while, so if you’ve been missing it, check out this post on my other blog. I was sent a dinner kit to prepare and review, and this is the article I wrote about it, complete with photos. The post also includes a giveaway for a gift basket containing lots of goodies and coupons for free products. (And I know you all love free coupons!)

Have you guys snagged any good deals lately? I know there’s been all kinds of sales at Safeway. Or maybe you’ve been eating out of your stockpile, too? Leave me a comment and let me know!
