$20 Soap.com Gift Certificate for $10 on Living Social (P&G Products Only)

Monday, June 27th, 2011

Soap.com

Living Social is offering a $20 voucher to Soap.com for $10 today. This voucher is only good on participating P&G products – click here to read the full details. According to the terms, you will receive “Free overnight delivery on your order of $25 or more”. Some blogs have said that this is for new customers only, but it doesn’t appear that way to me after reading the terms – hopefully I’m right, since I just ordered a voucher. 🙂

If you’re thinking of ordering this deal, just make sure to check prices carefully, as Soap.com‘s prices may not be that great depending on what these products retail for at your local stores. I’ve placed two orders previously from Soap.com, because some of their products are a good deal compared to what I could get locally. I also discovered that I had $5 in credit in my Living Social account (Apparently someone signed up through my link a while ago!) so I decided to go for this deal too, since it was only five bucks for me.

Thanks to Money Saving Mom for the heads-up about this deal!

Robby Wash Laundry Ball Giveaway – Ends 07/04

Friday, June 17th, 2011

Robby Laundry Ball

One thing regular readers might wonder about is how I save on laundry detergent, since you won’t often see it purchased during my shopping trips. The reason for this is that one of my jobs involves distributing products for a health & home care company, and one of the requirements to staying active in the company and receiving your commission checks is to purchase $100 in product each month. They specialize in dental products, but they also sell a few household cleansers, one of which is a laundry detergent. I purchase about 96 ounces of detergent each month to stay active in the company – and since my commissions are always greater than the amount I purchase, it earns me money and keeps me stocked up on laundry soap. So, now you see why I don’t buy detergent at the grocery store unless I have a free coupon!

I may have my own unique way for saving on detergent, but I’m all ears for other methods that could save my readers money. So when Oransi offered to give one of their Robby Wash laundry detergent balls away to one reader, I was happy to take them up on their offer! Read on for your chance to win!

Oransi also sent me one free laundry ball, so that I could try it out and give you my opinion on how frugal it is. Robby Wash is a small, reusable plastic ball which you fill with pellets. Here is the explanation of how it’s supposed to work, from Oransi’s website:

The Robby Wash ball uses a unique and patented worldwide technology to clean your laundry even better than the powder laundry detergents it was independently tested against. Its activated macromolecules are gradually released through the wash, dissolving dried-in stains by generating ions which activate the water molecules. This increase in the pH enables the activated molecules to penetrate deep into the fabrics and attach themselves to the stains. As the motion of the drum agitates the clothes, the stains come away easily from the fabric and dissolve in the water. Of all the systems on the market, Robby Wash’s effectiveness is tested, proven and guaranteed.

I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of a soap-less approach to washing clothes, and wondered how well it would work. I decided to put the laundry stick to the test during the first load, since I had just the thing for it. I had spilled chili on my pajama tank top (right after I pulled it out of the dryer, no less!), and, to make matters worse, it had accidentally got thrown back in the wash without any stain remover on it, so the stain had gotten ground in. (Yes, it’s been one of THOSE weeks!) I decided to give the laundry stick a whirl on this very tough stain.

Stain

The laundry stick smelled very pleasant. I wasn’t clear on how long to leave it on, so I just let it sit for about 20 minutes while I finished other chores. Then I started a load of laundry with the Robby Ball and tossed the tank top in.

Tank top after stain removal

Hey presto – the stain is gone! Pretty impressive! Next time I use this, I might not leave it on so long, as it looks like the spot where I applied it is a tiny bit lighter than the rest of the tank top now.

As for the Robby Ball itself, so far I’m pretty impressed with it. It seems to do a pretty good job of getting laundry clean and fresh. I’ve been using it in all my laundry loads since it arrived – with normal loads, I wash the clothes using Robby Ball in cold water; for bigger/soiled loads, such as kitchen towels, I wash them with Robby Ball in warm water.

Robby Ball in action

So now you have an idea of how the products perform – so how frugal are they? Robby Ball retails for $32.95 – this includes the ball, three packets of refill pellets, and the laundry stain stick. According to their leaflet, this kit will wash 120 loads of laundry total. That would make your cost around .27 cents per load. They estimate that this will last you one year if you do one load of laundry every three days – although I think most of my readers probably do laundry more often than that! How this price stacks up will depend on your usual target price for laundry detergent. Some of you may pay less than .27 cents per load if you’ve scored some good deals with coupons, or if you make your own detergent. For those of you that normally pay a lot for detergent, this might be an interesting option. I would still want to have some laundry soap on hand in addition to Robby Ball, for the event of extra-dirty laundry – I have no idea yet how it performs getting out mud, etc. Robby Ball can wash up to 10 lbs of laundry at one time – for bigger loads, they recommend using two balls.

But you know what is always a frugal way to save on laundry products? Winning them!

Free Whoppers For DirectTV Customers

My Free Whopper Coupons From DirectTV

While I was watching TV last night, I flipped through the channel listing on my DirectTV guide, and I noticed a new channel, number 111, titled “Whopper Lust – Get Free Whopper Sandwiches”. Well, naturally my curiosity was piqued, so I selected it and was taken to an interactive Burger King channel. They are offering up coupons good for free Whopper sandwiches to customers who watch their channel for increments of 5, 10, or 15 minutes. Using your remote buttons, you opt-in to the “Challenge” and watch their channel, which consists of an endless loop of a Whopper sandwich. After five minutes are up, you have the option of claiming a coupon good for one free Whopper, or continue to watch for up to 25 more minutes and claim a maximum of three free Whopper coupons. You can only do the challenge once, so if you want all three free coupons, you must watch all 30 minutes in one sitting. The channel prompts you to select certain buttons on your remote periodically to ensure you are still watching.

After I watched all 30 minutes, I followed the prompts and was taken to a screen telling me that my free coupons would be delivered in 2 to 4 weeks. I was never asked for my mailing address, so I assume that it must have accessed my DirectTV account information in order to mail out the coupons. You must have Internet/phone connected to your DirectTV in order to participate in this offer.

Now, I know what you’re thinking…Super Coupon Girl sat and watched the Whopper channel for 30 minutes just to get a free coupon?! 😉 But it was easy – I simply brought my laptop into the living room and worked on other things while keeping an eye on the Whopper channel. It was no inconvenience and I got three free hamburgers – works for me! This is certainly one of the most unique (and hilarious) things I’ve done to get a free coupon!

DirectTV Customers – Here’s How to Get Free Whopper Sandwiches:

Tune in to channel 111, IAC, titled “Whopper Lust – Get Free Whopper Sandwiches”. You will need to have Internet/phone connected to your DirectTV in order to participate. Follow the prompts on screen and watch the Whopper channel in increments of 5, 10, and 15 minutes (Up to 30 minutes total). You will be able to claim up to three free coupons. You can only take this “Whopper challenge” once.

Craftsman Gift Card

I’ve long recommended Vocalpoint as a great panel to be a part of if you want to receive free coupons and deals. Over the last few years since I’ve signed up, I’ve periodically received coupons in the mail for totally free products just for being a member. You can learn more about how Vocalpoint works and what I’ve received by reading my article “Get Free Groceries in Ten Minutes: How to Receive Free Product Coupons in Two Steps”. Well, today I got another great deal thanks to Vocalpoint. Recently, they offered members a chance to sign up for a free $10 Craftsman gift card. They were actually out of gift cards when I tried to register, so I figured I was out of luck; but last week, I received one of these gift cards in the mail anyway! It appears that they made an effort to mail gift cards directly to members who didn’t get a chance to sign up the first time around.

Then this morning, I read on Hip2Save that Sears.com is offering an additional 15% off on select Craftsman tools today, June 15th only. I decided that this would be the best time to put my gift card to use! I got a Craftsman 9 x 11 in. Sandpaper 50-pk with Portfolio and Craftsman 5 Pc. Midget Utility Blades totally free thanks to my gift card. We needed sandpaper anyway, so this was perfect!

If you’re a member of Vocalpoint and received one of these gift cards in the mail, here’s how to maximize your savings:

1. Sign up or login to ShopatHome.com to receive 5% cashback on your purchase. New to ShopatHome and want to learn more? Click here to read my article “How I Save Money With Online Rebates”.
2. Click through to Sears.com and search for “Craftsman” to see their selection of tools. Select items are on sale for 15% off today only, June 15th.
3. Look for items that can be shipped to your local store for free pick-up. You can also opt to sign up for a free trial of their “Shipvantage” service for free shipping on certain items, which is what I ended up doing (More on this below).
4. Enter in your gift card at checkout to redeem your $10 credit!

I ended up signing up for a free trial of their “Shipvantage” service so that I could get free shipping on my order, since the item I wanted was out of stock at my local store. It was very confusing to set up, and you must cancel within 25 days of signing up or you will be automatically billed $79 – which is why I always urge people to use extreme caution when registering for free trial offers. You have to be careful and pay close attention to the fine print, or you could end up spending much more than you save! I can’t vouch for how easy it is to cancel the membership yet – I’ll do that after my order arrives – but according to some of the customer feedback I’ve read, it can be a real hassle to cancel. So just bear all that in mind if you place your own order, and I will report back with how it goes for me! 🙂

Fotolia Stock Photos – Live Giveaway – Five Winners **Closed**

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Fotolia

I always like to include images in my blog posts, and if I don’t have any specific picture to add, I’ll search for a stock photo that fits with the post. Fotolia recently approached me and asked if I would like to try out a free one-month subscription to their service, and give away a few subscriptions to my readers. Since I know that many of my readers are also bloggers themselves, I thought this might come in useful for some of you!

I’ve downloaded a few photos on Fotolia so far using the free subscription I was given, and they’re quite pretty and high-res. I’m sure they will come in handy for posts in the future. Want to check out Fotolia’s stock images for your own blog? Here’s the giveaway details:

Live giveaway!

Fotolia would like to offer five readers a coupon code for a two-week subscription that will allow you 3 image downloads per day. The first five readers who comment on this post will win one of these coupon codes. I will update the post and close comments when we hit five comments, and email the codes directly to each reader. One code per person. Good luck! 🙂
