Weekend Deals: .38 Cent Snuggle Fabric Softener

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Have you heard of Alice.com before? It’s an online shopping site that sells items you’d find in a grocery store. The interesting thing is that they offer special online coupons and free shipping, so there is the potential for some good deals. Yesterday, they were offering 64 oz bottles of Snuggle fabric softener for .38 cents – all I had to do was sign up for a free account, add the item to my cart, and pay the .38 cents. Shipping is free and the coupon deducted automatically. You can order one sale item per person, and we’re in need of more fabric softener, so Jai and I both ordered a bottle. That’s .76 cents total for 128 ounces of fabric softener; not bad. I think the deal may be over already, but you can click here to view the Snuggle product page on Alice – I think you need to be logged in before the deal will show up, so you might need to create an account first. I would recommend checking back even if the deal is over for now, since it keeps popping up. I had initially heard about the Snuggle sale early last week, but the first time I looked it was unavailable. Then Money Saving Mom mentioned that it might be up and running again yesterday, and sure enough, I got in on the deal that time. It’s also worth keeping an eye on their “Best Deals” section – just keep in mind that you are required to order six items or more at a time after your first order.

Coupon Funded Menu Corner – October 10th

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

I was given some lovely home-grown zucchini and tomatoes from a relative’s garden, so on Thursday night I made a stir-fry:

Zucchini and tomato stir-fried with onion and served over curried rice. This was so easy and good that I made it again the next night!

I won a GT Xpress 101 in a giveaway and was eager to try it out, so yesterday afternoon, I took the leftover rice and veg and added a Kraft cheese single and some eggs to create an omelette. It was really good!

As you can tell, the omelettes were a little small, so I made another batch after I took this photo.

Free Eggs – First 20,000

Friday, October 9th, 2009

ETA: They have already reached 20,000 signups, but you can still sign the pledge and donate an egg to Feeding America!
Click here to take the “Eat Good, Do Good” pledge, and if you are one of the first 20,000 to sign it, you will be able to print a “Buy One Dozen Eggs, Get One Dozen Free” coupon. This is good on any brand of eggs, so it’s a fantastic coupon! I was one of the 20,000, but I got an error telling me that “You have already printed this coupon” when I attempted to print it off, so I’m going to send them an email. Let me know how it works out for you! They will also donate one egg to Feeding America for every pledge made (up to one million eggs), so it’s still worth taking a few seconds to sign up even if you aren’t one of the 20,000.

Thanks, Money Saving Mom!

Free Tube of Super Poligrip at Rite Aid, Walgreens, or Ralph’s

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Click here to sign up for a printable coupon good for a free tube of Super Poligrip, redeemable at Rite Aid, Walgreens, and Ralph’s only. I had some trouble registering because I already have an account with GlaxoSmithKline, but I got an error page each time I tried to log in using FireFox. I tried it using Google Chrome and was able to sign in fine, but the SmartSource coupon printer isn’t working for me in this browser. I emailed customer service to let them know about the issue – let me know if you guys have better luck!

Thanks to Common Sense With Money for the link – be sure to stop by and congratulate her on the birth of her daughter!

Online Deals: Gevalia Coffee

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

This morning I decided to take the plunge and place an order that I’ve been mulling over for months. Gevalia coffee has an offer where you can purchase three half-pound bags of coffee and a travel mug for $3.00, with free shipping. The reason I hesitated was that by making this purchase, you are automatically enrolled in their “Coffee Club”, and will be billed for coffee every six weeks unless you cancel. According to their terms of service, you are welcome to try the $3.00 coffee deal and cancel your membership once it arrives; they say that you are not required to continue in the program or make any further purchases. I’ve seen this deal advertised for maybe six months or more, but wasn’t sure that I wanted to venture it – I’ve always been extremely suspicious of “free trials”, and anytime I hear the phrase “No obligation”, I steer clear!

However, I’ve learned that saving money also means being open to possibilities – and in the last year, I’ve seen examples of smart shoppers actually getting good deals with trial offers. In April, I took part in a “Free trial” offer for the first time in my life in order to earn a free Photobucket upgrade. Amazingly, it worked as it said, without me getting billed for anything.

And over the last few months, I’ve watched everyone from Deal Seeking Mom to Mummy Deals take part in this Gevalia offer with no problems, so I decided to bite the bullet and give it a go. I think the secret to trial offers if to be very organized and highly cautious. Know the terms and conditions, make sure to cancel immediately, and check your bank statements very carefully to watch for any billing issues. We’ll see how my little experiment goes; I’ll post an update once the coffee arrives, and I’ll let you know if it ends up being a good buy – or if it’s not worth the hassle.

Starbucks Taste Challenge

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Did anyone take the Starbucks taste-test challenge over the weekend? Jai and I did, and it was a lot of fun. We were given samples to taste as well as coupons for a free tall coffee and $1.00 off Via Ready Brew. They also gave us little sample packets to take home. I love free events, especially when they involve coffee!

SCG Won The One Lovely Blog Award!

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Angie over at Short on Cents was sweet enough to nominate me for the “One Lovely Blog Award”! Wasn’t that nice of her? Here’s how it works:

“The rules of the “one Lovely Blog Award” are as follows:

Accept your award and post it on your blog along with a link to the person who has sent it to you. Pass the award to 15 other blogs that you have newly discovered. You must contact the person to let them know that you have chosen them to receive the award.”

I’ve discovered a lot of fabulous new blogs recently thanks to the awesome guest posters that have contributed while I was out of town over the course of the spring and summer – so I’d like to dedicate this award to them! I nominate:

Michelle of Saving Some Green (an old favorite, but still wanted to give her a shout-out!)

I know that’s only 11, but I wanted to feature my guest posters to say “Thanks” for their efforts!

Planning a Frugal Wedding Giveaway: Win a $25 Macy’s Gift Card

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

Since I got engaged in January, I’ve been sharing all the wedding-related special offers and freebies that I’ve found. So when M80 and Macy’s told me about their wedding registry rebate and offered to give one Super Coupon Girl reader a $25 gift card, I thought it would be a fun thing to share in my “Frugal Wedding” series!

From September 23rd through October 4th, Macy’s Wedding and Gift Registry are offering a $25 mail-in rebate. Here are the details:

“Macy’s Wedding and Gift Registry is offering a $25 rebate for eligible tabletop and houseware purchases of $150 or greater, from one of 30 participating vendors like Lenox, Waterford, Kate Spade, the Martha Stewart Collection with Wedgwood, and Anolon and Circulon. This rebate is available to anyone shopping off a Macy’s wedding registry, whether it be the registered couple themselves or their friends and family, between September 23rd and October 4th. This is the perfect opportunity for friends and family to get their favorite couple a wonderful wedding gift.

Rebate forms can be found in-store at any Macy’s Wedding & Gift Registry department or at macys-reg.weddingchannel.com/offers. Purchasers simply need to mail-in their original receipt and a copy of the couple’s registry to the specific vendor’s address found on the second page of the rebate form. The $25 rebate check will be mailed within 60 days.

And take home more while spending less with Macy’s buy 3 get 1 free offer. You can purchase five-piece fine china place settings, stemware and five-piece stainless flatware place settings.”

If you had planned on making a large purchase off a Macy’s registry anyway, now is the time to do it, since the rebate ends tomorrow!

Macy’s would also like to give away a $25 gift card to one reader. I’ve noticed a lot of sales and clearance items that are under $25, so you can score a nice deal with this! Here’s how to enter:

1. For your first entry, just leave a comment saying what you would use this gift card for. Be sure to leave an email address so that I may contact you if you are the lucky winner!

Want extra entries? Do any of the following, and leave a separate comment for each one:

2. Link to this post on your blog, then come back here and leave me the link!
3. Write about this on Twitter, then come back and leave me the link to your tweet!
