Starting The Transfer to WordPress – Please Read

Monday, May 31st, 2010

***This will be a sticky post until the move is complete. Please scroll down for new posts.***

ETA 06/08/10: I am currently waiting for Google to update some settings before the new site can go live. I don’t know how much longer it will take them, but I should be able to flip the switch on the new site very soon!

It’s almost here! After spending many, many hours learning my way around PHP & CSS and designing the new layout and graphics, the brand new Super Coupon Girl on WordPress is almost ready to go! I am now starting the next phase of the process, which involves importing all of the existing posts and content onto the new host. Once everything is switched over, I will be setting up a 301 redirect from Blogger, so you should be automatically taken to the new site when it’s up. I have a better idea of what to expect after Contest Corner’s site transfer, and I will take every precaution to ensure that the move goes as smoothly as possible. That being said, there will likely a short period of technical snafus as everything is migrated over – so if the site goes down or has broken links, don’t panic! We will be working hard behind the scenes to remedy it.

Switching all three of my websites over to WordPress has been a very time intensive process; once this project is complete, my time will once again be freed up for other endeavours. Thank you for bearing with me as I set up the new and improved site – I think you’ll agree that it was well worth it!

Call for Guest Posts

Would you like to be a guest writer here on Super Coupon Girl? I’m looking for guest posts to publish through the end of this month. I’ll still continue to post myself, but it will be nice to have a few guest writers to help out while I finish up this huge site transfer. Once I have everything moved over to WordPress, I am really looking forward to having my time freed up again!

  • Articles can be on any frugal topic.
  • There is no minimum word count.

Calling in Sick

Monday, April 19th, 2010

It’s been quiet around Super Coupon Girl this week because I have come down with a particularly nasty flu. I’m taking this weekend to recoup, but things should be back to normal next week. In the meantime, I’m glad for all the free cold medicine in my stockpile!

Welcome, 2010: Organizing The Pantry

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. I took a little time off to celebrate with my family – and also recover from the flu I picked up! 2009 was a very chaotic year for me, to say the least. There were big highs, like getting engaged and winning the Delicious Moments contest. And there were big lows, with deaths in the family. In between all this, I was working so much that I had little time to think of other things – it was an exciting year professionally, but I have a tendency to be a workaholic to the detriment of everything else. 2010 is about re-prioritizing my schedule so that I’m working smarter; i.e., no living off takeout anymore!

One of the first projects I’m working on this year is re-organizing my pantry. Something you have to watch when you have a big stockpile is expiration dates. Unfortunately, I was so busy with other things that I didn’t make the time to go through my cupboards last year, and many things have since expired. So this week, I’m throwing out anything that’s gone bad, and am marking my calendar to check the pantry again in six months. That way, we can use up items and donate any excess to the food bank before it goes off.

Are you getting re-organized for the new year? Tell me about it in the comments!

Happy New Year!

As we come to the end of both 2009 and the decade, I’d like to take a moment to wish you all a safe, happy New Year’s Eve. I hope this coming year brings much happiness to you and yours. See you in 2010!

Happy Holidays!

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Hi everyone! Things have been quiet around here lately as I’ve been consumed with wrapping up some major work projects and preparing for the holidays. Posts will be sporadic over Christmas but we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming after a brief holiday break. I hope everyone is enjoying the season – best wishes to you and yours!

Happy Day-After-Thanksgiving!

Friday, November 27th, 2009

I hope all my American readers had a great Thanksgiving yesterday! I had a nice time with family – my contribution to the dinner was a yam casserole made from some canned sweet potatoes that I got on clearance at Walgreens last year (I knew they’d come in handy!). Enjoy the holiday weekend, and good luck to anyone braving the Black Friday sales today. I didn’t see anything worth rushing out for, but I will keep an eye out for any amazing online deals between now and “Cyber Monday”.

Programming Note

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

It was a dark and stormy night…

I just wanted to write a quick note to let everyone know that there is a big storm happening here, and the power has been going on and off all day – in fact, I’m having trouble getting this post written, because the power keeps shutting off and then returning. So if I am suddenly silent tomorrow, it’s because I’m without power! During one memorable storm in 2007, we were without power for almost 5 days – so I always prepare for the worst! But fingers crossed that the power stays on and I can continue as normal.

Garden Update

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Well, I am officially back after my brief week-and-a-half hiatus. I am excited about what I have in the works for my blogs – and obviously, the news yesterday got my week off to an unbelievable start! So I’m back, and getting caught up on the emails and comments that came in while I was away.

Now, on to an update about my garden! Remember how I planted corn salad, radishes, and fava beans about 3 weeks ago? Well, here’s a photo of what my planter looked like this morning. I’ve been so pleased with how well these are doing. The tall row on the far right are the fava beans, the other two rows are radishes, and there are also some teeny corn salad plants poking through, but they’re too small to really see in the picture. So far, so good – they weren’t joking about these plants being good for winter coastal weather, either. We’ve had all manner of hail and thunderous downpours this last week, so these hardy plants have already taken a beating from the elements.

If you’re growing your own produce, I’d love to hear how your garden is doing!
