Could You Do Me a Favor?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

If you have a moment to spare and would like to do me a favor, could you click here to check out this article on Contest Corner and leave a comment on it? I am participating in a book tour, and the website that receives the most comments on their post will win a $50 gift card to Staples or Office Depot – and you know how I love gift cards! Also, four commenters will win a book, so maybe we’ll both win something! Click here to check out the post & leave a comment on it. Please note, comments must be left on that post to count for the contest, not here. Thanks so much!

Deadline Extended For Expired Coupon Giveaway

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I haven’t received any entries in my expired coupon giveaway yet, so I’ve decided to extend the deadline to Friday and see if we get any takers. I realize that it’s a very specialized need, so if not, I’ll just send them to Coupons To Troops. But if you can use expireds, be sure to enter – your odds are great and I have some fantastic coupons!

Expired Coupons & Their Uses – Special Giveaway – Deadline Extended!

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

I’ve mentioned before that I keep a shoebox for expired coupons. Why on earth would you keep an expired coupon, you say? Because many military commissaries will accept expired coupons, and you can mail them directly to military families through programs like Coupons To Troops, or even trade them on Hot Coupon World. It’s high time that I cleared out the expireds from my stash, and I have a pile of great, high-value coupons – many for free items! – that I could not use. So here comes the fun part: If you shop at a military commissary and can use expired coupons, leave a comment on this post. I will draw one winner through Random.org on Monday, September 28th Friday, October 2nd to receive an envelope full of awesome expired coupons. Giveaway is open to anyone worldwide who can use expired coupons!

You Say It’s Your Birthday?

Friday, September 25th, 2009

My birthday cake from last year!

Today is my birthday, so I have decided to start the weekend early by taking today off! I still have plenty of fun posts scheduled to run for the rest of the week, and if you email me or leave a comment, I will get back to you on Monday.

And while we’re on the topic of birthdays, let’s not forget all the birthday coupons and freebies that you can sign up for. Free Birthday Treats has an extensive list, as does this thread on Hot Coupon World. Thanks to these lists, you can get everything from a free birthday drink at Starbucks to an annual birthday card from Chicken of The Sea!

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Planting This Year’s Garlic Crop

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Remember how I planted garlic last year? Well, that crop has served me well, and I’ve been enjoying fresh garlic in my meals all summer long. Last week, I pulled the last two heads, and set one aside to re-plant:

Garlic is so easy to grow – it’s pretty much foolproof. Not only did this crop of garlic get covered in snow last winter (we had a freak occurrence of snow here and I didn’t think to move the pot under cover until it was too late), but I also didn’t water it once. I was under the impression that you weren’t supposed to water garlic, but apparently that is incorrect, since my gardener friend laughed nervously when I told him that! But it still turned out great.

Planting this garlic cost me nothing, took about five minutes, and will likely provide me with garlic all of next summer. The few cents that I spent on garlic in 2008 was a great investment! Growing your own produce is such a great way to save money – I’d like to make time to do more of it.

How about you, readers? Do you grow any of your own fruits or vegetables?
